KATARINA JANECKOVA - Chi cerca trova

OPENING 6-06-2018 6.30pm

Richter Fine Art hosts the first gallery personal exhibit by Slovak artist Katarina Janeckova.

After participating in the collective COM surrogate (December 5th, 2017 – January 31st, 2018) the artist presents her latest work series.

She is Slovak by birth and Texan for love, in 2013, after getting a painting Master degree, she moved to the States with her future husband.

Katarina Janeckova quickly earned a distinguished position among the best talents of her generation; she reached her goal not only thanks to her figurative painting, which is typically relaxed and emotional, but mainly thanks to the honesty by which she interprets her daily, unconventional experiences. She documents her life so carefully that her works might be perceived as a diary. Her paintings tell about the Texan culture, which includes local fishermen in a small town, her courtyard, the tons of plates in her sink, workers building houses, the garden, the desert, the snakes, cowboys, cowgirls and, obviously, her husband.

«Chi cerca trova – the artist claims – was the first Italian phrase I learnt. My father, who passed away seven years ago, taught me this sentence before my first travel to Italy, when I was twelve, and I’ve never forgotten it. I’ve used it in my life ever since. As soon as I moved to Texas, it took me a while to stop feeling sorry for myself and realize that living here can be an opportunity to approach life in a different way. Day after day, the subjects I painted were becoming more and more a huge source of fun, inspiration and, finally, admiration, until I understood that I had found what I was looking for».

Though, Katarina Janeckova doesn’t rely only on the external reality: she pays equal, or more, attention to her inner world. This blend of events, feelings, and peculiar subjective thoughts, creates the rare kind of intensity that her works emanates. It really is impossible to tell fantasy from reality, as the former constantly melts with the latter and vice-versa. Although the artist’s approach is often based on her personal experience, it isn’t exclusively documentary in a descriptive way. Her ability to express through widely known, highly re-usable symbols often confers to her scenes an allegoric facet that mixes rationality and sensuality, chastity and unstoppable unconscious desires, conventions and provocative sexual behaviors.

Katarina Janeckova (Bratislava 1988). She got her degree at Fine Arts Academy in Bratislava, and earned a distinguished position among the best talents of her generation.

She reached her goal not only thanks to her painting, which is typically relaxed and highly emotional, but mainly thanks to the honesty by which she portrays her unconventional experiences.

This blend of peculiar experiences, events, feelings, and thoughts lend a special light and energy to her works. Katarina Janeckova documents her life so carefully that her respective works might be perceived as a diary. In spite of this, she doesn’t completely rely on the external reality: she pays equal, or more, attention to her inner world.
